Walking in the City: 10/6/12

There is so much to see in this city, even on a simple trip to get pizza. That is one of my absolute favorite things about New York City: that no matter where you are going regardless of the time of day, you will undoubtably stumble upon some unique or crazy or beautiful things along the way. Below are some shots from a recent trip to John's on Bleecker, which incidentally may be the best pizza in New York City (at least the best I have had so far). The walk started on the Upper West Side, where we hopped on the train, then got off at Washington Square and walked to John's. Here are some beautiful shots from along the way.

Fall Sweaters!

Another tribute to fall - 3 looks in one, centered around a simple pair of classic black pants, styled with three chunky sweaters. There is nothing better than a warm, oversized sweater on a crisp fall day!

Green Jeans, How I Love Thee

With the onset of fall, I get to bring out my green jeans again! Yeay! Seriously, these jeans are my favorite item of fall clothing, mostly because they allow me to get away with wearing either black or beige for all of the other pieces without looking too muted. And when you pair them with some seriously edgy accessories, it creates a fun pseudo rock and roll look without being over the top. Here is a board I created on Polyvore. The look was centered around the green jeans (which incidentally are from Old Navy and are only $19!!!!

What They Wore

I have fond memories of watching Sex and the City with my college roommates on Sunday afternoons. I think we probably watched the entire series a few times, and as a result two things happened:

1. The show created an image in my mind of exactly what New York was like. Before moving here last year, I imagined that every woman was like Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte or Miranda, everybody dressed well all the time, and there were always fabulous things to do like go to gallery openings and fashion shows. And you know what, that is actually pretty close to the experience that I have had since moving here (or at least the weekend experience living here - I am not including the 60 hour works of the corporate world). New Yorkers dress impeccably almost all of the time. It's quite inspiring and amusing, but mostly it has meant that things like sweatpants and t-shirts are really only acceptable attire for working out and not anywhere else, and as such have been relegated to the back of my closet. But I digress...in addition to being fashionably inspirational, New York is as depicted in the series, with endless music events, shows, festivals, cocktails, fabulous food, galleries, etc.

2. I can now quote most of the memorable scenes from the series, including when Carrie is asked to be in a fashion show, and she is so excited because she thinks that they have asked her to be in the show because she is beautiful and stylish, only to find out that the have a "real person" show in addition to the ones the models will be in, and that is the one in which Carrie will be walking. Anyway, long story short, in order to make her feel better upon finding out that she has been categorized as a "real person" not a model, Carrie's friend tells her that she is the most model-y of the real people. And that line has stuck out in my head, and quite frequently plays when I see someone dressed to the nines walking down the street, and it played repeatedly in my head last night, with all of the crazy outfits worn by the fashion show attendees. It seemed like one big contest to be crowned the most model-y of all the real people.

Below are a few photos that I snapped of the people attending the show. I did not get too many because we were rushing in to find seats before the show started, but you get the idea.

Also, to follow shortly: a post on what I wore to the fashion show, as well as what I wore to the US Open last week!
