Fall Sweaters!

Another tribute to fall - 3 looks in one, centered around a simple pair of classic black pants, styled with three chunky sweaters. There is nothing better than a warm, oversized sweater on a crisp fall day!

Green Jeans, How I Love Thee

With the onset of fall, I get to bring out my green jeans again! Yeay! Seriously, these jeans are my favorite item of fall clothing, mostly because they allow me to get away with wearing either black or beige for all of the other pieces without looking too muted. And when you pair them with some seriously edgy accessories, it creates a fun pseudo rock and roll look without being over the top. Here is a board I created on Polyvore. The look was centered around the green jeans (which incidentally are from Old Navy and are only $19!!!!

J Crew "Inspired" Bubble Necklace

By now everyone has seen the J Crew bubble necklace, and while I usually don't tend to flock to overly trendy things, I love this necklace. I love the colors, the bold statement, the length, everything about it...except the price tag ($150!?!)...which is the reason I have been dragging my feet on buying one. BUT two nights ago, while perusing Facebook I saw an offer from Simple Addiction for a version of this necklace for only $14.99. Happy day! Alas, I could not make up my mind between the green apple color and the grey so I did what any rational person would do and bought both. Can't wait to get them in the mail! One thing I really love is that this will look so good with a solid-colored blouse and pencil skirt for work.

HURRY - there are only 3 days left to get the offer!

My Weekend Jewelry Purchase

You know how sometimes you go online for one thing, and about an hour later you realize you have not accomplished what you originally needed to do but rather spent the past hour wasting time at random sites? Well that happened to me on Saturday morning, and during the hour I found my way to Forever21.com and filled my cart with a few pieces of jewelry to kick start my spring wardrobe (or whatever...do I really need an excuse)?

Anyway, these are the pieces that will be arriving on my doorstep hopefully by the end of this week!

Beaded Tribal Pendant, $5.80
Spiked Tribal Necklace, $2.80
Lacquered Geo Earrings, $3.80
Colorblocked Cocktail Ring, $4.80

Anthropologie's Artsy Window Displays

Yesterday, when it was so nice outside, I went for a quick stroll at lunch to the Anthropologie at Rock Center for some window shopping. And taking that term literally, I spent most of the time looking at their impressive window displays. They had set up mannequins in mini artist studios with paint everywhere and beautiful abstract canvases propped nonchalantly around the "studios". It made me immediately want to start flinging paint around.

New Bracelets!

Because no outfit is truly complete without multiple accessories, I am always on the lookout for fun jewelry. Here are some of my recent purchases!
The turquoise bracelet is an old one that my mother gave me, but the fun yellow-green and silver bracelet is a new one from LOFT, on sale for ~$10!
These cord and letter charm bracelets say "Paris", "London" and "New York", 3 of my favorite cities! $5.95 for the 3 pack from H&M.

Pink, Orange and Black H&M Necklace

I found this amazing necklace at H&M for only $12.95. It's so great! So far I have worn it with a casual outfit (black shorts and a white top) as well as a work outfit (blue blouse with black pencil skirt), and both times I received many compliments. Love! This would probably also be an easy DIY, but for only $12.95 you can't go wrong buying it.

Zara Colorful Skinny Jeans and Zipper Blouses

Completely unrelated to my vacation (on which there will be additional posts shortly), I recently rediscovered Zara. Of course I have been aware of the store's existence, but there was only one in Boston and it is relatively new. I had been inside a few times but for some reason I was a bit intimidated by the store, most likely because the clothes are clearly a step up from H&M on the fashion chain and the woman inside always look like European runway models.

On a recent mission to buy a suit for work, I went inside the large Zara around 5th and 54th and was blown away by the beautiful clothes. While some of the items are a little pricey, I was able to walk away with a few great finds for both work and play without breaking the bank completely! I definitely have a new favorite store!
These blouses were each ~$31.99 on sale. I love the large exposed zippers on the back! I will def be wearing these to work with a black pencil skirt.
Green Skinny Jeans ~$35.99 and a comfy T for $7.99!

Recreating a Look for Less Than $75 - Neon Pleated Skirt

It's getting warmer in New York... and by that I mean it is now holding steady in the 40's (as opposed to the 20's or 30's). I can't wait for spring, and have started noticing the spring fashions in store windows. Bright colors will clearly be huge this spring, and one particular trend will be neon pleated maxi skirts. Here are two photos of said skirts, as well as my take on recreating the look for under $75.

Tom Binns Jewelry

Gilt has a sale that just started tonight at 9pm for Tom Binns jewelry. The pieces are amazing and I just love the bright colors. Although these may be slightly out of my price range, I would sooooo love to own one of the necklaces. They could easily be worn with a fancy dress, a T-shirt and jeans or a simple business suit. I think my favorite is the orange and crystal necklace, but honestly it's hard to choose. Love neon!!!! Spring, where are you?!

Seeing Stripes

I am seeing stripes everywhere. Stripes remind me of boats and sailing, so perhaps the increase in striped attire is a subconscious nod to warmer weather. There is something very casual yet sophisticated about a striped shirt, which is in my opinion one of the essential, classic wardrobe items that everyone should own.

Either of these...
Striped Raglan Top, $13.50, Forever21

With these...
Red Denim Skinny Jeans, $29.9, Charlotte Russe

Downton Abbey - Jewelry Inspiration

Downton Abbey is my Sunday obsession. This British show on PBS is a period drama that follows the lives of the Crawleys, an aristocratic family living in North Yorkshire England from about 1912-1920. The show is filled with romance, scandal, gossip and historical plot lines that include the sinking of the Titanic and World War I. In addition to interesting plot lines the show also does a great job of showcasing the fashion of that time period. The Crawley women are always adorned in beautiful dresses and jewelry, and have set off a bit of a fashion trend.

Of course after watching a few episodes of the show, since I am an accessories fanatic, I scoured the Internet searching for jewelry reminiscent of the pieces on Downton. Here are some great options:

Necklaces

Victorian Engraved Locket, Anthropologie, $1,038
Vintage Pearl Necklace, Ross Simons, $1,116.50
Earrings
